Is there a consensus about the best long distance saddle cover.? On my last two Mexico trips I was on an ST1300 with a comfy Sargeant saddle. My biggest complaint is that after a long day ride my man unit felt like it had been ground up in a metate. I mean, the RT saddle seems big, wide and comfy, but still I've been thinking about getting a sheepskin or something to try and mitigate my ruination. What's best?

Hi,
I have these Cool Covers on front and rear seats of my 1250 RT, they are about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch thick made from a 3 D mesh that does not crush when sat on. The idea is they allow air flow under your arse, but they also add a good layer of comfort. I have ridden for over three hours and got off with no discomfort, maybe worth a try.

I won't say I'm a committed AirHawk fan, but they've seen me through two SS1000 and numerous far away Ride To Eat events. They look as ugly as sin, take some time with experimentation to get them to your preferred pressure and I wouldn't leave one on my saddle parked at a city centre hotel overnight, but get it at the right pressure and whilst it won't take it all of the aches & pains away, they certainly go a long way to ease the discomfort.

I use an eBay 3D cool cover in the warmer months. £10 for front and rear, much cheaper than the named brand. If I am going on a long trip I use an inflatable air seat cushion again from Ebay.
Ive used the same set up on 3 of my last bike and never get bum burn any more

Same as you, Sargent seats on the ST1300 for many trips over the 11 years of ownership, so I naturally bought Sargent for the RT and so far no problems.

However, because it gets a bit warm on our summer trips I added the genuine Cool covers to the rider seat, and if you sometimes wonder if they’re doing the job? Just leave them on over winter and your butt gets seriously cold!
