Cracked Titanium Weld

Hi guys, whilst cleaning my 2019 RT1250 I noticed a crack on the weld between the silencer and the collector on the HP Akrapovic slip on. Anybody had this issue as well? Bike is now out of warranty. Any news or ideas would be great. Cheers!

My first port of call would be the dealer(if warranty hasn't lapsed that far)then Akrapovic. If no joy there then it's a decent welder.

Well, the bike warranty ended in June '22 (3yr warranty) I've not gone to the dealers, yet, but I probably know the answer they'll give me beforehand. Worth a try, though. I've got in contact with Akrapovic and they asked me to send them some images, which I did yesterday. Waiting for a reply, now.
Really weird, though. I've never seen a can crack like that before. The bike only has 23000km.

Well, Akrapovič doesn't wanna know anything about this. They say that the sip on came as OE equipment and so it's BMW who should sort it out.
I've now gone to the dealers who have made a claim at BMW motorrad, Spain. Lets see how this goes, but I'm not very hopeful.

A good specialist welder will be able to sour that out. Have you checked the rest of the system for looseness. Cracks like that are caused by vibration.

It's a shame that another member who's bike is still in warranty could not swap the exhaust with you.
I know of this sort of thing being done before over the years on other bike parts to.

Do you say he and another should commit fraud?. That is a slippery road to follow. I would do it

I find it a bit rich that Akrapovič have simply washed their hands of this fault and said it was OE and therefore for BMW to sort out. Whose name is on the exhaust? Unless they are saying a product shipped to BMW is of a different quality, they should stand by their product irrelevant of how it got to your bike. It’s not like you’ve taken a products that isn’t intended for the RT.

Having worked in Test and Ceritifcation for over 25 years, albeit in a variety of industries, I find the way some companies play fast and loose with Warranties all a bit baffling (excuse the pun!). I realise you can’t offer a lifetime warranty, but 5yrs doesn’t seem too outrageous on a piece of equipment costing as much as they charge and intended for the kind of application/use it is likely to see. A bit of investment in life testing (vibration/temp cycling) could easily allow them to build a rugged product and then offer a longer warranty. Unless of course it’s all wishful thinking on their part… it wouldn’t surprise me.

I can see the Akra side. The bike and it's add-on parts were sold at the point of sale by BMW. BMW were the surplier of the goods, so these parts come under their warranty and not the parts that come from outside. Bmw covers the said part. There is no comeback from their outside surpliers.
Any warranties claims and so on are with the first seller or company of the goods.

Update: BMW don't wanna know either. They say the bike is not under warranty any more. Some guy at BMW is trying to get me some sort of a courtesy deal ie we go 50/50 or something along those lines but as with Akrapovic, I'm not very hopeful.

I will check the slip on to see if it's come loose. Only two bolts hold everything together, the one by the sleeve and the one at the rear footrest. You could be right and maybe the bolt at the rear footrest has come a bit loose. Anyway the damage is done.

Regarding specialist welders, I cannot seem to find any who weld titanium in my area.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket slip ons that are worth it ?

I have an Arrow pipe(got the full system)love it.I think it looks good and sounds just about right.




Sure you'll find a welder but how much.Must be specialist job,good luck with whichever way you go

Exhaust looks neat but I've been looking at the Arrow website and they don't do any slip ons for the R1250 RT 2019.

Did not want to post this on here as its Douglas thread about the problem he is having with Akrapovič.
But i thought others should know.
Well i bought twin can slip-on's for my Gen2 Hayabusa. I paid £1300 for them.
When they came the slip-on were great. But the link pipes were a very poor finish.
I tried to see if i could get replacment linkpipes and was told no as Akrapovič said the linkpipe were ok.
I could of returned the whole system, but i really wanted these exhausts.
So i ended up painting the linkpipes black.
Akrapovič's customer service is not that good. I wont be buying from them again.

Here are the new linkpipes as they came from Akrapovič. No attempt to clean up the tooling marks.
