Close to a year of riding

Post by MrHowler »

70yo, haven't ridden since my 20's. Last spring got an 06 r1200rt with close to 50k miles on the odo. I enjoy the sporty handling, but still haven't put in more than about 100 miles in a day. I ran Castrol 20/50 last summer, but in winter changed to a 5/30 synthetic and immediately saw improved fuel mileage and engine performance. I'll probably run a heavier synthetic summer 2024. I switched out copper brake pads with synthetic because the brakes felt grabby at very slow speeds, but the brake response is about the same. The previous owner put new Mi Pilot tires on, but I wonder if they were factory seconds as the rear slipped belts after about 5k miles; he also installed a cheap battery that barely turned the engine over, and I replaced it with a light weight Weize Lithium. I was mulling over buying a much newer bike this year, but this bike has been a joy to ride.
