Drilling holes in screens !

Post by jesim1 »

I fitted a Power bronze touring screen to my 22 RT and felt that although it was better than the original, the added size meant I was getting a bit more forward suction from the low pressure area that builds up behind the screen. My solution was to drill 4 x 13mm hols in the screen to see if this helped - and it did, there is no down side to this, the holes are small enough so as not to affect the strength of the screen, kept away from stress points, and there is no wind noise, which was a concern, best of all ....... it works, and there is now less pull than on the OEM screen :P

That's why bikes like the Gold wing had a vent. I was thinking of putting a Goldwing vent in my screen
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

I just could not find a screen that had these for the R1250RT when I was looking for one I liked, I had one on my last bike with the vent and it solved the problem:

Wow, that’s a brave move. Not sure I would have the balls to drill holes in my screen. Respect.

How much bigger is the Powerbronze screen compared with the OEM?
Slow in, fast out.

Mine looks like a couple of inches taller and a different shape at the sides, it does not look much when next to each other, but there is a big difference the way the air is directed over and around you, for the money I paid for it (new) it was a bargain, I'd buy another in the future.

I have the same screen and it's actually half an inch taller at full height!

But the shape makes the air flow better in my opinion

I think it's the right size and the air management is good

I can't remember, I'm going for memory, but I think you can get the OEM screen in different sizes, and also the Powerbronze ones, mine is the 700mm version.
