never to old to learn

Post by EasyRider »

So when i brought Artie, I did the spec checks mainly on wet/dry weight .
Because i thought that the RT was a tourer with luggage, I thought the 277kgs/610 lbs was total wet weight.
Well i have now found out after 18 months of owning Artie that the weight given is without the luggage.
So you could say the RT is near 300kgs/661 lbs wet with luggage. Then add the weight of the extra's like engine/panniers bars and so on.

Has anyone ever taken there RT to a weighbridge ?

Now i know why i was hurting so much the next day after Lucy nearly had the bike over playing silly buggers, as i had all the luggage on with stuff in them for our day out.

I’ve just googled for a 1250 RT wet weight, thus including a full tank of fuel, including panniers. This is shown as 279 kgs, but different sites give different results, some or none may be factually correct.

I managed to drop my old Pan when I put my foot down on gravel at a junction, it tilted to the right and I just couldn’t hold it, then it was a case of letting it down as gently as possible. That was a lumpy thing at 328kgs or 7.7st heavier than an RT.

Pleased to hear it didn’t go down, well held Sir!

No never weighed mine but after a few years ( albeit older and with more health issues) I’m definitely not seeing the RT easier to tackle than my previous ST1300. The seats are higher, tank is higher, panniers are higher and wider. When it’s on the move it’s fine and handles great but I’d love to step over a pan again just to see.

In 2014 when the LC RT was introduced, there was also a change in the regulations to the effect that if luggage was included as standard on the bike then it had to be included in the wet weight*. So 279 kg it is - for a bare bike with no ESA, radio, top box etc. So a fully-specced LE model with crash bars etc will weigh more than the 279kg.
* There were howls of anguish at the time as the weight increased from the 259kg of the last oilheads to the 274 or 279 of the LC bikes. Nobody realised - except for me, I suspect - that the rules had changed. This was because it was not mentioned at all on the UK website but was on the German Motorrad website.
