To late as i have just brought a used one off eBay from MotorWorks for £150.
It does need a bit of TLC, so might just repaint it to match Artie's colour.
Going by the first photo it comes with a new bmw backrest. these are around £80 on there own.

Well the top box is here and at £150 with a brand new bmw backrest is was a bargain.
It does have some light marks on it, but i have just brought 500mls (neat or 1ltr RFU) of bmw 416 paint to colour code the top box to match the bike.
Also the 28ltr top box is a nice size on the RT if you don't want the painners fitted. The 49ltr box looks to big on its own on the bike.

No problem, will do it later today.
There are some 28ltr boxes on ebay now for around £150-£200.
But you can buy a new one on ebay for £285 which i nearly did, but getting a new backrest with the top box i brought swung it for me. As the backrests are silly money to buy.

So i went to town today to pop into Timsons to get a second key cut for the top box.
The guy in the shop said that they did not have any blanks for that key.
I said if i get a blank myself At around £10, how much to cut a key. His reply was £20 to cut it.
So i told him i can buy a new lock with 2 keys for just under £30. I then left the shop.
I have now brought a lock and 2 keys from MotorWorks at £29.40 including postage.

Had a similar problem with the smaller top box I bought off eBay. Came with one key and bought a second blank. Two Timpsons weren't even interested in looking at it, one claiming he could damage the cutting kit. Went to a third and they cut it in 5 mins, no charge.
Some of them just seem to want to be arsey.

If anyone wants it, I've got a BMW 29ltr top box (with mounting plate) sitting in the loft unused.

Whether it'll fit an RT I don't know, but if anyone needs one I'm open to offers.

Morning All.
So Martin i managed to find the weight of both the 28 & 49 ltr boxes.
I nearly ended up in the dog house as the wife nearly caught me taking the bathroom scales down the garage.
So here is it, with this info i can see more RT owners who only ride local buying the 28ltr top box.
The 49ltr box is 21.2 lbs. This is the newer box with the brake light and auto locking.
The 28ltr box is 10.6 lbs which is half the weight of the 49ltr box.
That 10.6 lbs is a lot of weight not to have to carry. I just use my top box to put in my GS-911, Torx bits, Tyre repair kit, Noco GBX45 booster pack and Visor cleaning kit. I also carry a drink to.

Just brought a BMW inner bag for the 28ltr top box.
Brought it used as the seller said it was only used once.
I paid £45.26 including BPF and postage.
I have seen them new for £67 so i saved £21.74 which i'm happy with.

Thanks for that Martin, that’s a fair difference!,
