Recently joined the forum so I thought Id say hi. Ill be in the market for a new( to me) bike in the next few weeks after selling my Triumph Trophy 1215 last year. Currently looking at the watercooled 1200RT or and FJR1300 so thought Id research both to make in informed choice. I have looked at a few 1200RTs recently and have been disappointed with the finish on some them with having corrosion on engine & final drive areas.
Hoping to pick a few brains and will keep an eye of the for sale board.
Thanks
Baz

Welcome to the forum
The older bikes with more wear and tear will show more corrosion etc, especially if used in the UK during winter. Mine is a dry day bike, so 2 years old, 7 thousand miles, and not a mark on it. I have had several other BMWs though, K and GS series, but all relatively new to 5 years old, none of which showed any signs of corrosion
Trying them out is a good idea, and not all bike will be loved and cherished, you have to kiss a lot of frogs and all that

Welcome to our site.
Bikes around 2007 show more corrosion due to BMW trying a new water based paint. Since 2010, they have changed to a better paint due to lots of warranty claims and complaints

Hi and welcome to the forum
I went from an FJR to the R1200RT and have never looked back!
They both have their positives and negatives and for me there is more positives to the BM than the FJR
