Rotating brake lever attachment on handlebar 2005 R1200RT

[size=2px]I want to slightly rotate the brake lever up about 1/2 inch.  Before I start messing with it, will I find that the brake lever unit is fixed in place on the bar, by a ridge fitting into the unit, etc.,  and therefore incapable of being rotated?  Also, can I alte...

Re: "Distance in a Day"

1000 miles (well, OK, 982, actually).  Last day of 8,000 miles coast-to-coast-to-coast (Pacific/Gulf/Atlantic/Pacific) summer tour on a Honda Magna V65 1100cc (liquid-cooled) in 2000.  Was really disappointed that Montana had auto-banned its no daytime speed limit policy, but in Ne...

Re: 2005 R1200RT mirrors pop off - any way to anchor them?

Thanks, all.  I think the zip tie is the best option, as long as you leave enough slack to snip it if you have to remove the mirrors to work on the body panels, etc.  I can only blame myself for losing the mirrors, in that I'd screwed some plastic pieces on top to deflect the wind/...

2005 R1200RT mirrors pop off - any way to anchor them?

I see that BMW offers a "holding strap" which I suppose just prevents the mirror from falling to the roadway when it pops off.  But it probably flails about  in the slipstream, marking up the fairing bodywork.  Looks like it would be easy to fabricate your own.&a...

Re: Kisan Self Cancelling Turn Signal Minder SM-5

I have a 2005 RT, and it does have a self-canceling feature.  I find it is much longer a period than other bikes I've had, a bit too long in my opinion.  As stated above, it does not cancel when the bike is not in motion. What I find annoying is that there is NOT a post-turn cancel...

Re: Replacing windshield long swing arm 2005 RT

Good point. You know, immediately I hit "post" I thought that I should've noted that mine is an extra-wide after market screen.  I also thought I should've suggested that, in side-wind conditions, one should lower the windscreen to avoid breakage.  During the same episode...

Biking is a throwback means of transport.  Knights errant on our steeds, exposed to the elements, earning the journey.  Now if we could only wield a lance!

Re: Replacing windshield long swing arm 2005 RT

Any help?  It's only exactly what I needed!!  I'd thought that the horseshoe-shaped part was one piece, making it seemingly impossible to push the pivot pins out in that narrow space.  This should be easy.  I gotta say that the metal upper swing arm must be made o...

Re: The dangers of parking an RT

Unlucky Paggers, I would have bet it would have fallen to the left also, as never had a bike fall to the right in 40 years motorcycling. :( Same here!  The worst scenario is when it falls on the left with the bike in neutral.  You do the comical circle dance before you realize the...

My kingdom for a trusty steed!  If only Richard III had had a beemer;  history might have been so different.  Just a "hunch" on my part (and his).

Replacing windshield long swing arm 2005 RT

The upper right swing arm broke at the attachment to the windshield.  I'd like to know how much disassembly I need to do, since there doesn't appear to be enough room to remove the swivel pins, especially the lower end with its 90 degree cylindrical slot for the lower pin.  It appe...

Re: Jump starting 2005 R1200RT

Thanks to all.  Don't need to know the exact temp, tho'.  Just afraid it was indicative of other electrical problems stemming from the jump start, none of which have arisen so far.

That's pounds, not guineas, yeah?  I'd buy it just because it's the first part I've heard of that's cheap!  Thanks for the info.
