Re: Fuel sensor strip 2005r1200rt

Looking at the history of my bike it seems the fuel strip was replaced at 10k miles and is still working at 35k. I haven't had a bike with a fuel gauge since a GPz750 back in the eighties so it's a bit of a novelty for me. I've been touring for the last 12 years on a bike that does 130 miles until a...

Re: What did you do today?

When my local Harley dealer opened about 20 years ago the Buell demo bikes were so under utilised that they used to ask me to take them for a few days to run them in. Times change.....

Re: What did you do today?

Pan America ugly? You're all blind. It's the best looking adventure bike out there! ....admittedly it has taken five years for me to come to that conclusion since I first saw it but I find I never appreciate really good looking stuff immediately ;). Now if they would just sort that TFT out and fit b...

Re: 2023 Poll of Tyre Options

Mine had a fairly new Bridgestone T31 GT on the back and a knackered Michelin on the front. I've just replaced the front with a new T31 (£120 vs £360 for a pair of Road 6s). When the rear has gone though I'll be powder coating the wheels and fitting a new set of Michelin Road 6s - purely from very h...

Re: Pannier question

I was just cutting rubber of various thicknesses and sticking it to this plate. The other thing that occurs to me is that I haven't tried refitting the panniers after having the side plates powder coated. I bet there's a few mm of tolerance in the exact positioning of the lower pannier mount when yo...

Re: Pannier question

46547712002 seems to be available on-line from BMW Motorrad in the States but not in Europe.
I should find out where my nearest dealer is and see if they can get hold of them. The last time I was in a BMW bike dealer was over 25 years ago!

Re: Pannier question

That looks interesting. Where did the picture come from?
They do look slightly thicker than standard.

Re: Wunderlich rear dirt-trap help!

Mine were definitely corroded and took a fair bit of heat and force to remove them. I ran a drill bit through the holes by hand and made sure that they were bunged up before powder coating last week.
I'd like to know what you think of those Wunderlich panels when they are fitted.

Re: Pannier question

I noticed this as soon as I got my bike home. A quick search on line confirmed that this is not uncommon. I played around with various thicknesses of rubber attached with double sided tape to the plunger which definitely improved things. I think there might have been a BMW kit mentioned somewhere th...

Re: Parts

Yes, that's the stuff. I think the old pads were EBC HH too but they were in quite a state. I decided that since I was replacing the disc it would be a false economy to reuse the old ones even if they had plenty of life left in them. I've just pulled one of the front callipers off and it is a simila...

Re: Parts

I went for EBC rear disc and pads (sintered). The bike has been ridden through several winters and I was prepared for a real mess but it was much better than I expected. The backs of the pads were rusty but the pistons were very clean. Got the footrest plates powder coated and removed the flapper va...

Re: Parts

I just replaced rear pads and disc on my (new to me) camhead at 35k miles. The disc was down to 4.15mm. I'll be doing the fronts later in the week. They are making a scraping noise while the bike is being pushed around so I assume that the front pistons will need a good clean (hopefully not replacem...

Re: Hi from Gods waiting room

Apologies for hijacking this thread but was there a high (heated?) seat available for cam heads?
