Re: 2013 RT performance upgrades

Depends where you are but a remap of the ecu gets a lot of good feedback. Hilltop Motorcycles seem to be the place of choice in the UK. Very popular with the R1200GS crowd. You can also go down the performance header pipes and end can route or the Power Commander or AF-XIED. Google will get you lots...

These guys offer a rebuild of the ABS module for £195 plus vat backed up with a lifetime warranty. Maybe an option for those with failed units?

Re: Crash bars - to be or not to be that is the question

Indeed, the GS bars are original BMW bars. However, if they were not fitted the damage to the head could have been a show stopper. The plastic guard broke in two. I think as long as you recognize that bars are aimed at low speed or stationary offs, then go ahead and fit them. If your expecting anyth...

Re: Crash bars - to be or not to be that is the question

The Wunderlich bars for the oilhead 1200rt's claim to distribute the load in the event of them being used in anger. Hopefully I will not have to test them anytime soon. And yes, you should declare them. I have engine bars on my 1150. They earnt their keep a few years back when an old dear hit the ac...

Re: RT Long Term Reviews

It strikes me as if it's written by someone who doesn't ride bikes and has just looked through the Internet's for some basic facts. Poorly worded in places, e.g. 'The 2014 R1200RT is powered by a new version of the air/water cooled 1170cc two cylinder boxer engine'. So what was the original air/wate...

Re: Oil leak in filter area

Sometimes the rubber oil filter o-ring can be left behind and stick the engine, so effectively you end up having two o-rings. This could cause a weep.

BMW system 6 evo helmet parts.

Is it possible to buy parts for my system 6 evo, other than visors? I'm after the lower black trim around the base of the helmet if anyone can help?
Phil.

Re: A first world problem...

A nice 1150gs, up to 2002 with the black finished engine and gearbox so as to avoid servo brakes, twin spark engine and deteriorating build quality.
I run my 1200RT along side my 1150gs. If I want a more involving ride I take the gs.:-)

The posted date on ourgees link is 2016 or am I reading this wrong?
It's a worry if the dealers got it wrong though!

Re: Weather protection vs. a good hug(ger)

On my 2011 twin cam I fitted a mudflap to the front of the inner rear mudguard. The result is less road crap flung at the rear stand, exhaust clamps and the lower shock/mount. Costs less than a tenner and easy to fit :-) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk14/mb5_2008/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160207_...

Re: Faulty Oil Filters !

Agree using genuine BMW filters or Mahle filters. I fitted a hiflo filter to my old R1100RT. Browsing through another forum revealed other folk had issues trying to remove them. Thought nothing about it until the time came to change mine. What a bast##d to get off! It finally came free, but its whol...
