Since 2009 many models in the range have shared the same design of switchgear easily identified as it has the one lever indicator system. Over this time BMW must have replaced thousands of them due to persistent failures of both left and right hand unit, but mainly the left one . To my knowledge there have been at least 4 different versions to try to solve the problem. I had 3 left and 2 right ones on my 1600 in only 2 years.
This design first appeared on the RT on the 2010 model and is now in use on the 2014 one.
But I have not come across mass suicides of them on the RT. Or don't RT owners complain like everyone else. As I now have identical switchgear on my LE to my Previous 1600 Exclusive I hope its because they just don't go wrong on 1200 RTs.
