VARIATIONS ON THE METZELER Z8

Post by guest2360 »

On the Cupped Tyres thread, which has now gone into unapproved pressure settings, I posted I had considered fitting a set of PR4GTs. Then changed my mind when reading about punctured.  I ordered a set of Z8s with a C rated rear.  What turned up was an O rated rear.  Did a bit of digging and discovered this is also a recommended rear for the RT but apparently will give an extra 30% mileage.  But there is also the new O1 with  HWM rating (heavy weight motorcycle) .  If I can find them I will give them a go.

You did well - the "O" ("M" on the front) is meant to be a much better tyre than the "C". The new Roadtec tyre set is based on the "M"/"O" technology.

I've rang my tyre supplier, Steve at National Bike Tyres, https://www.nationalbiketyres.co.uk/ on 01642 316771, he is going to have a look to see which Metzeler 01's are available.

Pidcock's got them for me, only the rear is HWM .  Official Metzler site shows the fitment.

Has the Metzeler 01 now replaced the Z8 as one of the three Tyre Options recommended by BMW for the LC RT.

The other two are Continental Road Attack 2GT or Michelin Pilot Road 4GT.

No idea if BMW recommend them yet but Metzeler do so that's good enough for me.

I'd be surprised if a BMW Dealer fits tyres if they aren't recommended by BMW

Customers choice.  BMW just haven't got round to them yet.  I would think they will soon be arriving on new bikes as they are the next generation Z8s apparently.

Yep, that's what I have.  Yet to put them on the rims though, too cold to open up the shed.

+1, the Z8 I have on my previous bike (K1600) handled well but short life and metal bands showing with no warning means they were not for me again.  If these tyres fix this problem (please let us all know) I could be back to them again...  Peter
