Tank bag choices for 2013 RT

Post by mack62 »

Just sold my 2003 1150RT and bought a 2013 90th anniversary edition.  I had a moderate size tank bag (Famsa)with my old RT that was convenient for tolls, etc.  Are there any aftermarket bags available that can use the BMW mounting system?  I had a look at the stock BMW bag and it is bigger than I want... do like the mounting system though.

I use a Touratech  streetline tank bag. attaches to tank rails using straps and Velcro.Bag has removable map pocket and is very easy to remove for access to fuel cap etc. Cost around £100. Maybe what your looking for.

this may not be feasible, but one solution I tried (that worked) was using the plastic "chassis" from a BMW rail bag , removing the Motorrad bag portion, and riveting on a new smaller bag.
I had the motorrad bag for my 2009, then bought a second bag to have a "modular" setup for my GPS, charger, etc. I bought an old used one off eBay, then did my "mad science" to make the new one and it worked great. In recent years, with the hard formed SW Motech EVO and ION bag line, this would be easier than ever.

Having had a BMW Motorrad 1200RT bag since 2007, the map pocket cover has become discoloured & one of the zips is u/s, recently purchased a nearly new replacement.

This gives me the option to consider doing something similar with the old bag chassis.

Have you got any photographs of what you did that you can post on here, thanks.

Has anyone tried a Givi Tanklock bag on a 2012?
I already have the bag, thinking of getting a universal tankring and putting spacers undr it to bring it up to above the tank rails.

Just got one of these from Amazon for my 2013 rt.

motec ion. Comes from Germany. Smaller than the bmw one and only £100! Tank lid a bit tight when fully open on mounting ring but don't see it being a problem

I found the Wolfman Blackhawk fits my 2016 RT. I have the braces aka suspenders that hold the straps in place when he bag is off the bike for extended periods of time.
