2012 model vs the newer models?

Post by Zapata »

Hello Team:
I found a 2012 R1200RT with 8,300 miles. Dealer is asking 10K (US). I am planning to trade in my 2013 Victory Cross Country. Anything in particular to look for on this model?

Thank you very much and Happy Holidays!

Coming from the Victory, you'll find the RT nimble, capable,  and fast.  Is quite the change, I hope you've done your research and understand what you're getting into.

If it's an Approved Used Bike, with full BMW service history, sold with a warranty, clean & tidy, then go for it.

Now on my second Twincam RT, the latest being a 2012 model which was purchased as an AUB with service history & warranty.

At risk of upsetting the water boys, I think the twin cam is the best of the RT’s. More refined than the earlier models but not lost the character

Having had a Hexhead, now on my second Twincam, the latter (2012) one being purchased in 2014 as a used bike rather than a new Wethead.

The last of the air cooled RTs are great bikes in my opinion, and also come with the fewest issues (of the air cooled RTs) in my experience.

I love my 2017MY RT LE, but keeping my 2013 RT (90th anniversary model) would have been no hardship if money had been tight.  I did over 30000 miles in three years including some long trips to far flung places and a lap of the Nurburgring - and never had a bit of bother with it.  (Correction - I had to change two headlight bulbs 😊)
My 4th R1200RT = 2016 (2017 MY) R1200RT LE

Well..guess what??

I GOT IT!!
I had to rode it back home in the rain and my WOW moment was when I apply the front brakes! I was not aware they will bite so hard!!

The bike feels so different but very well planted.

I have a 2012 RT-P, I love it.
I have a HD XR1200 in the shed and recently got rid of my Hyosung GV650 (daily ride).
I'm amazed at the way the RT sits and handles on the road. Glad i took the offer and brought it.

Enjoy your ride mate! 😁
