Personally, I never thought that hi-viz made one bit of difference to my safety when racking up my in-service mileage. Prior to the introduction of it, I wore 2-piece black leathers, nothing reflective of note - admittedly, though, the bike was a liveried one, more often than not - and I don't recall having more close shaves, near misses or whatever back then. If they're not looking, they'll not see you, whatever you're wearing. I'm not blowing my own trumpet, and I'm nowhere near being a fantastically-skilled rider, but I really do believe that the training I had played a massive part in my surviving all that riding without a major prang.

I bought high viz bmw jackets and dayglow yellow system helmets after I saw other bikers with black jackets and helmets. Those who wore high viz stuck out more noticeable. For me it was a no brainer. Motorway repairers wont be wearing black clothing.

Thanks for your "professional" feedback Pete, sounds like we have similar thoughts on the wearing of Hi-Viz or not.

I asked my local  "professional" on her opinion on high viz? She said she'd recommend anything for an extra £20

Hi-Viz will brighten things up!

It doesn’t have to be a white motorcycle... here in the United States not all police motorcycles are white. They don’t have the high-viz paint schemes like they do in some European countries, they’re typically black, or white. Some blues mixed in there as well.

When I ride my big red Harley folks tailgate me, cut me off, turn left in front of me and constantly talk on their cellular phones while driving near me:





When I ride my black R1200RT none of this happens for some strange reason:

My RT is white, my clothing and helmet are dark..... what I have noticed recently is when I catch up with a car, I drive mostly on country roads, they drive in the gutter / verge and kick up all sorts of crap with their tyres!!!  I dont know if they think I am police or they just are helping me get passed? I think they just crap themselves when a bike apperas behind them..... at least they see me  :))
