Lambda/O2 Sensors

Post by David. »

Wanting to understand how Lambda/O2 sensors work and how the air/fuel ratio is monitored, did some research and came up with a couple of videos.

This first video shows how an O2 sensor works, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl3aD1qJrEg
The voltage output between 0.1V (lean) & 0.9V (rich) is relative to the air/fuel ratio.

The second video shows testing of O2 sensors, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDan2q9Q7Gc
Skipping to 18:48, shows the O2 sensor voltages on an R1200RT.

I now understand how monitoring these voltages indicates the fuelling on the bike without exhaust gas analysis.

Apparently, folks who for example re-map ECU's use this information to trim the fuel mapping they may install on the bike.

Have I understood and explained this correctly or is it just b*ll*cks.

In reference to the need to purchasing some O2 sensors - Problems topic - viewtopic.php?p=54050#p54050

https://www.oxygensensor-crossreference.com/

my RT requires - Lambda sensors - Part No: 11787674452 - £95 motorworks

This site suggest as direct replacements the use of

Don't see why not, BMW don't make O2 sensors but NGK do.

Using the same theory, have a look at this thread on spark plugs, viewtopic.php?t=5.msg28013#msg28013
