Has anyone got some idea,s on how to keep the centre stand paintwork in good condition , sick of wire brushing and hammerite paint as it still gets covered in road crud and invariably ends up rusting , i was wondering if getting it stove enamelled would work ?

Powder coating will last a fair bit longer than paint

I have just had mine done and it cost me £20

If you had a GS you could buy one of these from Wunderlich

Easy enough to make your own. I repainted my stand with Hammerite smooth

I just spray mine with GT85 every now and again.

This is one of the best solutions I've seen, as fitted to a Camhead.

extremely easy with a home made tool

Those springs are bloody strong and I reckon I could have done it with a spring puller but I thought sod it I am making life easy

I also didn't want to risk marking/chipping the nicely powder coated stand

Now where did you get that idea from.

I recall seeing a video a while back by a fella took off his stand, cleaned it, painted it, covered the cross section that's in the firing line with waterproof grease, then covered that with a short length of black PVC (plumbing type) tubing. It all sounded a bit OTT to me, but he was happy with the end result.

Centre stands do get hammered with gravel rash, (particularly the crossbar between the two vertical legs), resulting in corrosion. Not wishing to remove the stand, I rubbed down the horizontal tube, brush painted with Hammerite Smooth then fitted a length of plastic tubing for future protection.

That was cheap, I’ve been quoted £40….
