Phone charging in cubby hole

Help please guys.
I place my IPhone 13 (in or out of its case) onto the conductive charging Matt in the cubby hole and the charge light goes green however. After a 30 secs to a minute, the light flashes amber, turns off and recycles back to a green solid light again.
Clearly there is an issue. Anyone come across this annoying issue? If so, what was the fix please?
Over a period of time this cycle , appears to be draining the battery life of the phone prematurely.

Mine does the same. Getting a small cable instead.

That cubbyhole has never worked for me on my bike. The hole, itself, is too small for my smartphone. I just run a charge cable to my phone's bar mount.
