Cooling system refill

Post by Glencoe »

Following a water leak, and after filling the radiator, will the cooling system operate properly without pressurising the system?
I also believe that the system should only be refilled by a particular mix of coolant?
Thanks

I did mine 5 yrs ago, and time for another change.
I find it helps to pour the coolant solution into the radiator very very slowly....that way, to avoid trapping in air as much as possible.
When its near the top, start the bike with cap off and watch till it stops gurgling and falls/levels off.
Shut her off and let it cool down....top up if necessary.
Cap it and go for a ride, and check it after it cools down.
My 2 cents worth.( and use a silicate free anti-freeze).
