Re: Free Shaft replacement from BMW
Has anyone in the UK received a letter from BMW specifying that the shaft will be replaced at 36,000 miles? Ive not had any contact from them and have had conflicting information from dealers.

Re: Klim Latitude and Altitude Jackets
I have worn the latitude for a couple of years now.Great jacket, but the small velcro collar closing is a bit annoying. Its quite bulky for a small closing and snags my helmet buckle.

Re: Free Shaft replacement from BMW
Its not the shafts as such, but the tunnel its housed in.Water ingress is taking place and either siezing the shaft onto the final drive, or getting into the yoke bearings of the articulated joints.Or both. The shaft can break, causing loss of drive, or worse, lock the rear wheel.

Re: Free Shaft replacement from BMW
Yes, thats helpful. The thing about BMW is, they are quick enough with emails trying to sell you the latest boots, gloves or latest bike, but when it comes to a safety issue with a previous model..no contact.Nothing.I spoke to the dealer and he denied all knowlege.Never mind fannying around, adding i...

Re: Is this driveshaft salvagable?
Sorry mate but its knackered. The rust has probably siezed it to the final drive. It has cetainly compromised the seals for the yoke bearings and the bearings will fail soon with catastrophic results ( shaft through casing, rear wheel lock up). Needs a new shaft minimum. The sad thing is, if it was a ...

Re: driveshaft failure?
Yet still BMW refuse to check the RT shafts as a service measure and only cover other models with the same parts.Looking at the NT1100 for my next bike.BMW customer care is a misnomer, they're not interested.

Re: BMW driveshaft recall/problems & preventative maintenance
The reason BMW give for the exclusion of the RT is horse shit. The angle of the uj,s is greater on the GS models. Its the water ingress and rust that finishes them off..

Re: BMW driveshaft recall/problems & preventative maintenance
I drilled the hole for the vent but tapped it and have put a screw in it.Ill monitor the water build up.The smoke was introduced into the vent hole under low pressure. If the boots arent leaking, im at a loss as to where any water production comes from.My last 2014 RT sufferred a seized shaft to the ...
